Gentlemen,
KOWLOON CANTON RAILWAY - BRITISH SECTION.
With reference to the Conference with Sir Francis Hopwood at the Colonial Office on 22nd April, we have now carefully considered the additional information which we have obtained as to the cost and progress of the tunnel, and recommend that the work should be continued departmentally and that steps should not be taken for the letting of a Contract.
We consider, however, that it would be advisable to send out a thoroughly experienced man to take charge of the tunnel under Mr. Eves, and therefore recommend that Mr. V. Waite should be appointed at a salary of £600 (six hundred pounds) per annum.
Mr. Waite has had very many years experience on tunnel work in all parts of the country. His address is 117, Ravenslea Road, Balham, S.W., and should this recommendation be adopted, you will no doubt communicate with him as soon as possible with a view to his signing his agreement if his medical examination is satisfactory.
